If you love indie music, Rosewater Park is definitely a name to look out for. Based in Toronto, the band is a near angelic must-must-must listen.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Lana Del Rey, Portishead, and Amy Winehouse, the band morph each of their individual inspirations into one to create their final product. “Our individual music influences are very diverse, and we try to blend them together as best as possible”. The band also takes visual and conceptual cues from video game Silent Hill, which inspired the band's name.
Speaking of visuals, Rosewater Park's music videos are always stunning. They're like a cross between found footage and the best arthouse film you can think of. It's like everything the band puts out has a certain dreamlike quality to it, whether or not they're even trying.
According to bassist Oliver, the band first met at their college’s music program. “We were friends at school before we started playing together.” The band's drummer, Nico, was an old friend of Oliver’s and met the rest of the band through him, Oliver says. “He barely played drums before that. The amount he’s improved in such a short time always astounds me. In our second year, we played a couple open mics together with some of Maddie’s songs, had a good feeling about it and eventually decided to start playing together as ‘a band’”.
Though the band has only been releasing music officially on streaming since 2024, they’ve been performing these songs since 2023. Rosewater Park has played a lot of shows in the Toronto music scene, their sold out show at Tapestry is definitely a favourite. “It’s hard to choose a favourite out of all the shows we’ve played, but the ones where we really connect as a band on stage and the crowd’s feels are my favourites” says guitarist Joan.
This lineup includes their latest single, “Reckoning”: an angry, infectious indie-rock song about an ex that is bound to get you hooked. The song is an earworm that you won’t be able to get out of your head — especially with its addicting instrumentals and its rough yet dreamy production. It's piercing and absolutely magnetic. Lead singer Maddie says the single was “originally a sadder, acoustic song, but went in more of an indie-rock direction once we all worked on the song together.”
“We’re going to compile [the singles] and some bonus tracks into a full-length project early next year,” keyboardist Ali told Contemporary Girl “but we’ve also begun writing a more intentional concept album which we’ll hopefully have more news about soon!” Safe to say, we’ll be tuned in for whatever Rosewater Park releases, even if it’s just a couple seconds of static noise.
